Nature Girl

Well, Gumbo and I went on the Brownie weekend sleepover. We can't call it a campout, due to the fact that no tents were used. We stayed in the home of one of the "Brownie" families. I think Gumbo learned a lot over the weekend. Her leader questioned me about exactly how much time she actually spent in "nature" after she screamed when she saw a bug and when she was caught sitting on a large rock by the stream, emptying her crocs, because she got dirt in them! I quickly let her know that this was probably the first time Gumbo had actually spent the weekend in the woods at a house on the lake. Gumbo learned all about bug spray, watching for little animals, water bugs and skipping rocks on the lake. Gumbo is at a new school this year, so we really enjoyed spending time getting to know her new friends and some of their moms. Lack of sleep aside, I had a great time with my litte "nature lover" and enjoyed seeing her experience some of the things I had as a child. Cardinal game aside, I enjoyed the quality time I had with her. Priceless!

What we give up for those we love!

Before I get started, I told you I was not technologically gifted! I lost my blog and couldn't find it! I have just recently located it. I have now written all of the info. down so I won't lose it again! Now.........What types of things do you give up for the ones you love? Well, since we have moved to the midwest, my daughter (let's call her "Gumbo") and I have gotten hooked on Cardinal Baseball. We especially love going to Busch Stadium. "Gumbo" says there is no point in watching the redbirds play on t.v.--there is no fun in that! So...for the past two Christmases--is that right???---Gumbo has gotten me a package of seats to the games. They are random Friday night seats for each month of baseball season. Of course, who do you think my sidekick is? You got it! Anyway, Friday night is our night for September. Baseball season is almost over. So....why wouldn't I want to go on a two night sleepover with the Girl Scouts, right? I have done everything to try to convince her to go late, not at all, etc., etc., but she wouldn't budge! So, like any good mom, I am giving up my tickets to the cherished ball game. You know, in this day and age, there is not a lot that we have to "give up." We are tremendously blessed--actually more than what we deserve. So, I will gladly go to the sleepover with a smile on my face and get to know the new friends and moms that Gumbo has recently made. When I think of sacrifice, mine is nothing compared to the ultimate sacrifice that was given so I may live.

A New Era Begins

This is just the beginning! This is a huge stretch for me. I am not computer "smart" and thought, as I am sitting here watching the weather report about our winter storm, that I should start a blog. Now, some of you may say that I have too much time on my hands. On the contrary! I am a wife and a mother and I work full time. So...I really don't have too much time on my hands! Life is a journey--so please join me.
